  • 6.398 A turned vampire’s heart stops beating and only restarts for a true fated mate; the restart is agony — “my dead organ tearing itself back to life, ripping through calcified tissue” — and is the definitive confirmation of the bond.   • 6.403a THE SIRE BOND is a compulsory magical tether: “He can command you, and with his command, you will have to listen”; it takes centuries to break, the sire feels the childe’s pain, the sire is accountable for the childe’s mistakes, it is two-way and cannot be dissolved unilaterally, and a vampire cannot command one he did not sire.   • 6.410a Ordinary slumber runs “No more than eight or nine hours. It doesn’t take long for a vampire’s energy to replenish,” and going too long without it induces “a zombie-like state.” Resisting Damon Ch 17
